Recent Rain

Crazy thunderstorms last night kept both of awake for awhile.
Flood watch/warnings around the burgh now.
With more coming.

Looks like we may have gotten more rain on this side of the state than the rest of it though
A friend of mine fished spring creek today, and said the water there was fine.

I was around a variety of streams today around central PA and I laid eyes on a bunch of different water . Mountain creeks were fine. Actually, you couldn't even tell it rained when you looked at a mountain freestoner. They looked parched like they needed a bigger drink. Some small streams in valleys were blown and muddy, but not terribly blown out. Some of the larger creeks also looked mostly untouched by the water so far, but they had some color.

I believe we are in for more rain tonight. This is great news in my opinion. This will keep a variety of streams at good levels for fishing for a while, and after some sunshine and a warm up hits us, it should be game on in a big way.
Dear jifigz,

What I find strange about all this conversation is how people seem to speak only in fishing terms, or in relation to what rainfall means to fishing.

A lot more of what happens in the next few weeks mean far more than how fishing conditions are affected. We got .70 inches in the last two days at my house and stream levels did almost nothing in response. Locally heavier amounts fell elsewhere, but we need 2 or 3 days of soaking rain to count for anything over much of the state east of Rte 11/15.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

All I know is that walking across my yard is like walking on a thoroughly soaked carpet… squish…. Squish…squish… and theres standing water….. ground is saturated. Wonder how much water I’ll get in the basement?

Water in the basement is awful. We’d been in our house 25 years with a finished basement and only a couple of groundwater seepage incidents (Tropical Storm Andrew, Hurricane Ivan). So, maybe an inconvenience every 10 years.

December ‘23 & January ‘24 included water four times with non-stop shop vac’ing. We “waived the white flag” and hired a firm to install a French drain & sump pump. Glad we did. That pump worked excessively the remainder of the winter & spring last year.

More rain today. Streams should be in good shape for a couple weeks.
This is great as next week I'll be on Penns, Spring, and a few others every day.

I was very careful selecting my lot for my current house. And since have made sure all downspouts are channeled away from the house. 35 years and the sump pump only runs when I test it.

All the major streams - with perhaps the exception of spring creek - are blown out.
Right when the grannoms were starting - for the 2nd year in a row now.

Hope you ground water enthusiasts are happy.
You can quit the rain dances now though

The northern tier I’m sure hasn’t even started to leaf out yet. This rain will last, and get into the ground relatively well, relatively speaking.
Yep, no leaves yet. Maybe one tree in town has a few buds. Last I checked Tuesday's highs are forecast to be below freezing up here. Snow tonight.

Interesting weather pattern setting up late week-weekend. Could be another rainy pattern or just scattered showers.. We'll see...
