Reading new posts

I just joined the forum. I need to mark all posts as read so that when logging on I can just call up new posts since the last log on.
I have clicked on 'mark all as read' , but still have 3200+ posts displayed when selecting 'new posts.
What am I doing wrong?

If you read the post and nothing new has been added after you've read it, it will turn a light (hazed out) blue or orange.

It there has been a new post in the topic, the color will be vibrant.
