long time listener, first time caller.......
I fly fish a local pond that has stocked trout, bass, catfish, bluegills, etc. Every day the trout and I think occasional bass will "dart" (as oppose to rising) and most times the dorsal fin will break, but many times the trout will come "eye out" and a few bass have been seen coming straight up.
I've put a fine netting on my net and let it sit in the pond "flow" for 30 minutes and I come up with nothing. I cannot seem to figure out what they are coming up for.
On a side note, after many "experiments" the fly I catch the most trout on is what I call the "Pond Fly". It's a size 14 hook, Cok-de-leon fiber tail, bright orange thread for the body, peacock herl wrap at the front (maybe 4 wraps) and partridge feather fibers tied sparely at the head. No weight, no bead head.
Pond is 15-20 feed deep.....I fish this no deeper than 3'.
