It is an interesting study, I took part in a past similar study before the newer photography analytic software and skeletal. I only helped collect data for the study I was apart of, but we were actually sedating the fish to get an image with the fins fully displayed as well as collecting other data. Even with slightly sedated fish, getting the necessary photo quality was difficult. I do worry about some anglers who will truly want to help, but perhaps be overzealous in the number of fish they try to take pictures of with the gray card in the background. This could lead to a lot of poor handling, but I hope that the people who choose to participate are cautious enough to be responsible.
