In the past I’ve never used a base for my tying vise. I’m going considering taking some fly tying stuff with me on my May trip to Maryland. If I do that I’ll need a portable base. Any suggestions other than the Peak? Amazon has one for under $40 including shipping.
Any advice offered will be appreciated.

i use a griffin pedestal for my renzetti traveler (i used to be a c clamp)

A peak vise has a shaft diameter of 3/8’s. Buy any base that excepts 3/8’s and you’re in business. Vise shafts are either 3/8’s or 10mm. 3/8” is about a 1/2mm smaller then 10mm so worst case scenario is you have to tighten the screw another turn. I’d be mindful of the size of the base as the smaller ones can be tippy.

I made my own bases by plug welding a 3/8’s machine bushing to a hunk of plate steel. There’s not really much to a vise base.

I probably have half a dozen bases ranging from higher end to Amazon types. I don't find any difference.
I do find differences between the name brand clamp on brackets and the cheapies.

Okay as a metal smith I make a pretty good lawyer !

Correction, 3/8’s is 1/2mm smaller than 10mm. So a 3/8’s shaft will fit in a 10mm and 3/8” collar.

I was simply pointing out that there is no need to stick within brand not that you should make one, even though anybody could.

My apologies. I wasn’t being snarky. Honestly! I was commenting on my personal limitations. It was my way of saying that I’m pretty terrible at stuff like that.
