I was not aware there's a PA river of the year contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds & Rivers. Some interesting info in the article featuring five PA Rivers. All have good stories to tell about their comeback. Interesting article:

My mother grew up in Olyphant, PA 80 some years ago, right along the Lackawanna. She told it was a lifeless wastewater at the time full of coal dust and sewage. Remarkable what a comeback this river has made.
