Organizing tying materials, How do you do it?

Kelly Galloup has a good video on this very topic. Link is below:

While you are there, check out his latest video on deer hair.

I use these for thread. Each holds 34 spools and cost about $5 at Walmart.

Excellent six part series on this subject at flyanglersonline.com. Select 'Fly Tying' along the left edge of home page. Then select 'Getting Organized' in the drop down list of fly tying. Artical was written by George Emanuel.

I've been trying to get materials organized following George's advise. Progress has been slow. I'd rather tie than organize.

In case you haven't figured it out, Sterilite is your friend.

Target, Walmart, and many more carry them. You'll also want some of these...

YouTube has a bunch of videos on storage but they all seem to have the same common denominator, plastic containers, Ziploc bags and mothballs. Once you see what's available. you'll probably follow your nose and come up with a system that works for you.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

There's nothing worse than buying some new material then finding out you already had it. Now you have two lifetime supplies.

Whats worse is when you do it a third time. I now have 3 packs of SLF brown olive dubbing. Thankfully its not expensive.

Thanks for all the links and suggestions.

I tie in the building that I built for my pool table out back. There's a small corner closet that houses the junction box and such. I turned that into my fly tying materials storage by attaching peg board to the walls and door, adding shelves and nailing up a thread spool holder. I like it, but eventually I'd like to fabricate some sort of fold-down table that folds out of the closet when you open it so that I don't need to set up my folding table and will have everything within arms reach while I'm tying.

Thanks everyone for the links !

I actually cleaned up the desk last night and reorganized my peg board. Now I may be ready to practice for the tying jam. I even found some items that can be donated to the raffle.

I use two filing cabinets from ikea .
