Took the yak out for the first time this year - to fish a body of water I hadn’t fished in nearly 40 years. It was a nice morning with cloud cover - usually a good thing. For all the improvements and regulations on this lake, the water was a greenish brown soup - not sure if it was an algae bloom or what - but this was a couple of steps above the usual eutrophication green color. Visibility might have been 15 inches. I just like to see fish to cast to - but this wasn’t an option. I ended up with two smallish Bluegills but will probably won’t make the effort for another 40 years I suppose. I did get to test the yak anchor and home made PVC fly rod holder. Fished last years model Butterstick in the 580 configuration with small streamers and poppers. Kinda disappointed with the low vis 😑

It was almost 40 years ago that I fished that lake. It was well known for a good population of muskies. I was young and belonged to a musky club, Muskellunge of North America which was located in Elverson. The club took a trip up there - no muskies were caught but I got a follow on a Mepps Musky Killer spinner. I went back solo later and caught my first legal musky there. At the time, Frank Brown was a well known musky fisherman who was the president of the club. He averaged many muskies a year, and part of his claim to regional fame was catching a 39 pound musky out of Kaercher Creek Lake using a plug he modified himself to imitate the big goldfish in the lake. Just thought I'd mention it as you jogged my memory.

Good times - I know PAFBC has introduced some Esox back into this system - I don’t know how well they’ve repopulated though.
