Old Orvis Graphite Fly Rods

Thanks Troutbert. A skilled caster could make a 3 or 4 weight line work with it but small stream fishing is challenging enough for me.

>>I will use it as my small stream brookie rod but I wonder whether a five weight line is overkill and will scare the fish to the next county. Anyone else use a five weight for small stream fishing?>>

I do and always have (used a 5 wgt. for small stream work) and always will. Any fish that you line or spook with a 5 wgt. will be just as lined or spooked with an invisible 000 wgt. (or whatever the current rage is...). It all depends on you, your casting and presentation.

I was searching for the retail cost for my rod back when I got it and this old thread came up in results so here I am. I think I paid $365.00 in 1979 for my Far & Fine. I've been using it ever since then.

I've caught all kinds of fish on that rod and some that were quite large. I agree that they are about the best casting rods ever made.

I'm going to browse some threads now and see what you folks are up to.
