notifications?

Just noticed I had a message in my inbox and threads were replied to. How do I get email notifications for these? I don't see an option in my account.

They were turned off for many years and then I tried it out again. I had to turn them off again in May. They generate too many messages from the site and increase the size of database. Sorry just too much for the system.
