Just built a st. croix 7 wt rod this past weekend. Hoping to catch some winter trout on it, sorry it's a little messy.

Yup, sure is, never really heard much on st croixs fly rods but I think it was a good choice
Their newer models seem to be pretty good. They "re-entered" the fly fishing market in the last couple years. Previously, they had a pretty good reputation with the older Legend and Avid series, but that's going back quite a few years.

I have a 7 weight St. Croix my brother made me years ago. Originally got it for Steelhead but now it is my smallmouth rod. Love it.

I have two St Criox (6 and 8wt Legend ultra) and fished (through fishing buddies) 4 and 5 wts. They are heavier than top rods, but a good value for the buck. I also think weight is way over rated- although I really felt it with the 8wt. The differences between "heavy" and "light" graphite rods aren't what they used to be. There is more parity now. Another difference is hardware quality, but when building your own you can upgrade where you want to.
