Hello I am in the process of getting my mountain bike set up for some bike in fishing locations , and going to use it on some rail trails to access water that I would not normally fish . I am looking for recommendations a rear cargo rack that bolts onto the back of a full suspension mountain bike . I am looking for this rack to carry first aid kit, rod , rain gear , food , and a small tarp, waders and boots . So looking forward to hearing some recommendations. Thanks

JC

If it is rear suspension, I think you will need one that attaches only to the sear post. Watch your cargo weight as not to exceed rack limits.

I bought a used mtn bike a couple years ago it came with a standard Schwinn seat post cargo rack. Its very light and can handle up to 20 lbs just to give you an idea of what it can handle. I'll post a pic if that would be helpful for you

Look into what Trxstle has to offer. Not cheap by any means, but they have some pretty awesome bike storage and rack systems. I've been thinking of getting one for my MTB for the last year or so, but just haven't pulled the trigger.

I purchased a rod case holder for my bike about 15 years ago. It mounts to the front axle with an angled bracket that holds the rod case and a strap. I could use a backpack for my waders and gear but I usually just wear my gear and use a waist pack. Wide pedals make it easy to wear wading boots. Makes it faster to scramble down the river bank the water.
I made another rod holder for my other bike with pvc mounted to the upper cross bar. Real at the neck and the tip exits by the seat post.
I is not a race to the fish but a journey.

Although I don’t think my bike setup will work in your situation, here’s a picture of my bike and maybe it’ll give you an idea or 2.

I have collapsible saddlebag style baskets. My legs are short and I wanted to make it easier to get on and off my bike with the basket folded in before I put anything in them, particularly if I had my waders on. My seat can also be pushed down when I get on, if needed, (as pictured) and then hydraulically heightened to my riding height with a lever on the handlebars.

I can carry my rod(s) and a few other things in the bag on the front handlebars. It’s diameter is adjustable so it can be enlarged to hold more items if needed, and I also glued Velcro on the inside, and made a rod tube from a piece of a PVC tube to make sure the rod tube doesn’t fall out while I’m riding.

When all else fails, I also have a Fishpond waterproof backpack that I can wear. Come to think of it, that might be the quickest and easiest solution for you.

That’s a nice set up.

I have a rod topper from these guys. The bike rack they offer may be what you are looking for

Mt flyfisher that rear rack is exactly what I am looking for . Just need to find one for a full suspension. That is a sweet setup
Mine is from Axium, they make a variety of bike racks and other products, and are relatively inexpensive. I don’t know if they have one suitable for your bike.
