Looking for a cheap spare rod, any thoughts?

Im looking for a cheap spare rod that I can leave in the trunk. I also occasionally take some non FF friends out and let them cast a bit and handing them something other than my orvis stuff would be nice. I happened to be at ****'s Sporting goods and saw two intetesting options. The yellow bannana eagle claw featherlight (5/6 7') and an Okuma slv (5wt 9'). Ive read everyones opinions here of the featherlight and ive actually been toying with buying it for sometime now. However, the okuma seemed like a pretty nice rod for $50. I also like the okuma's 9' length as I do a lot of nymphing. Any one own or have fished the okuma slv? I know its not gonna be like a $500 rod... I'm open to other suggestions, but cheap is the main criteria. 4 or 5 wt also because i'll be using a spare real I own spooled with 5wt. Thanks for your help

another option would be to buy a used rod from the swap forum or ebay, lots of good rods available out there.

Get a "starter" or "beginner" rod from Gander Mt., Bass Pro, or Cabelas.
I'm sure they will be running sales with the holiday season approaching and if not then than in the early Spring they surely will.
Bargin Bins and the Bargin Cave are great places to look through out the year.

I think I got my start-up kit (rod reel line, backing, leaders, and a dvd) for like $85 like 10 years ago.

the slv is a great rod for the price at ****s (69.99 i believe)
plus its a 4 piece

my little brother as a 9' 5wt slv and its been a great rod. its on the heavy side in my opinion but its a good rod.

personally if you want a back up for under 100 bucks i would pick up a redington crosswater they are super light and have a great med fast action

I'll be honest, I don't know anything about the Okuma; but I gotta aggree and say +1 for the eagle claw

Mine's been in the trunk all summer; and I've probably caught as many fish with it as my regular trout setup. It's done me well.

Look in Cabelas Bargain Cave, specifically for the 9' 5 weight rod with no name on it, if they are still available.

I bought 2 of them earlier in the year, am very pleased with them. They had a price tag of around $75. and I talked them down to $60. Great rod for the money. If you want the story behind the "no name", pm me.
