I recently acquired a 9 ft 7 wt Redington predator rod. I love the rod and it casts great, but I haven’t quite found the right line for it. I’ll be casting medium to large streamers for bass and, steelhead. Right now i’ve been using a cortland 15’ ghost tip line, and it feels nice just a little too light. With all that being said, do you guys have any recommendations on a good sink tip line to pair with this rod?

I really like the airflo steamer max short for my 7wt. I believe it’s a 15’ 240gr 5isp to 7isp head which I think pairs perfectly for the medium to large rivers I fish with it and even some smaller stuff. I can’t speak on steelhead, but it shoots medium and larger bass and trout streamers great.

Is the running line floating or intermediate?

I enjoy the Orvis Pro Depth Charge 250gr on my 7wt. Intermediate running line. Sinks really well at 5ips. I've used this line for all my dedicated streamer fishing for about 2 years now.

Recently picked up the Orvis Bankshot sink tip, I am eager to try it as its a floating running line. Its a more aggressive sink rate than the depth charge at 7ips.

It’s a floating running line which is awesome for wade fishing and works well as a boat line too. The Airflo streamer max long is pretty much a dedicated boat line just because it has a 30’ head I think

I’ll definitely take a look at both of those. Sounds like the bank shot might be more my style considering I wade for almost all of my streamer fishing.

Thanks for the info, I wade fish a lot of bigger waters like the lower delaware river and often need to get some extra distance in my cast, how’s the streamer max short in terms of distance?

It’s preformed really well for me on long casts with accuracy when I wade fish the NB of the Potomac, the middle Potomac and the south central smallie streams. It’s become my goto for that style of fishing.

Thanks again for your help, sounds like this is the line for me. Now I just gotta save up some money for it haha 😁.

Yeah man no problem, I went through the same issue when I finally settle after buying a couple others. They’re kinda salty but airflo makes a great product and they last longer than others. Just mind your stripping finger since it’s a textured line!

Thanks for the tip, I always getting line burn when I strip set. Never thought to use tape but I’ll have to try it.👍
Dear Ewan,

It works great. Just put a wrap around your index finger and middle finger on the hand you strip the line through, and you will fish all day without it coming off. It will get wet and slimed up but it won't come off. It was invented for waterproof bandages on animals. You can also buy finger sleeves, or even gloves, but I like the Coban better because I just stick a roll in my fishing bag and it's always there.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

I’ll have to give that a try. I always just use electrical tape

I had a sharkskin line for a while. Used to basically saw through my finger. Would just change finger grip occasionally. Scars make good callouses.
