Fished a few spots around State College yesterday. Mild, like mid-30's, but no ice or snow melt yet to eff up the color and the temperature of the water, so despite some high sun, low water, and a mid-day wind, a pretty great day to fish. My best of the day below. I think all but one fish took a black or red zebra midge in 22, euro-nymphing with the midge tied right to the bend of the anchor fly, nothing fancy today but the colors on the exceptionally pretty quarry...

Yeah, good stuff. Someone's out there catching something....that's not ice fishing.

A very nice fish and some great motivation.

This weekend can't get here soon enough! I think a lot of PAFFERS are gonna wanna wet a line soon.

Ha, I guess climate, and comfort, is very subjective. At the mid-30's I am content to day dream about a late March steelhead trip hoping for high 40's weather.

You sound like my dad, Matt, which means you sound like me in 25 years!

Thanks, all!

Nice fish there for sure. My advice to anyone thinking about it and capable would be go! In the past year I hit some heart med side effects that would not let me do winter fishing any more. I used to like ice fishing to break up the season. Now I have to wait till some warmer days. In the meantime, I will tie some flies and hunker down in the wood shop. When life gives you lemons..............

So if your on the fence, load the gear into the car.

Real nice post NW!

Nice! It warms my frozen heart.

That's a nice fish. I went out on new years eve morning. Fished in single digit temps. Sometimes its good to raise the bar (or, I suppose, lower it) to the extremes of your comfort zone. Fishing in the 30s now sounds delightful!

I'm jealous. If we get a decent weekend soon I'm heading in that direction without hesitation. This weekend is looking like a bust....

I here you! My buddy out there there was fishing all through those teens and catching a lot of fish on the cloudy days. When I have to tenkara a 20 foot leader on my 10' 4 wt, I would rather stay home, but 30's are nice! I didn't even where a jacket in Lancaster/York counties today. 55 felt like 70 :-D

Thats just a good fish. Nice job.

GenCon

Be great to be out today.

Probably! Am pushing 75 and did tons of cold weather fly fishing when the guides would freeze up. I think it is great that you have the enthusiasm to go out now. In 25 years after you have caught a few thousand more trout you very well might feel like your Dad and me.

No doubt! I've been an old bull at heart for a long time now...
