Talleur's fly tying books were impeccably written. I.have several. I taught myself to tie using books including his.

Richard Talleur's book "Fly-Fishing for Trout: A Guide for Adult Beginners" was probably the first book I ever read on fly fishing decades ago. To say it was huge influence on me, my opinions & tackle choices would be an understatement.
He was the mentor I didn't have in my life at that time so I took everything as gospel and IMHO the book didn't steer me wrong in any direction. It started me off right and still guides a lot of my opinions and preferences today.
Needless to say it was a huge thrill to have the opportunity to meet Mr. Talleur many years ago, tell him how much he influenced me and have him inscribe my copy of his book.

International trade in grey jungle fowl feathers has been legal since 2012, but most commercial trade involves birds raised in captivity in the us and other countries where fly fishing is popular.
Meanwhile, population of wild grey jungle fowl in its native India is more or less stable.
International trade was banned in the 1970s because of unregulated harvesting of wild birds without regard for sustainability. Thanks to the pause, and the switch to farm raised birds, the wild population is more or less preserved.
I know all this because I just finished and article on the subject that will be in the 2025 Brotherhood of the Jungle C@ck newsletter.

Not that it matters, but I think that's the 2nd edition of the book which probably contains some updated "gospel." 😉
What's crazy about my copy is I got it and a bunch of other classic titles on closeout at Lit Brothers in Upper Darby, PA, a famous Philly department store chain.
At the time I barely knew a thing about fly fishing but I knew I had better take advantage of a deal. The same day I also purchased "This Wonderful World of Trout" by Charlie Fox, "A Modern Dry Fly Code" & "In the Ring of the Rise" by Vince Marinaro and Matching the Hatch" by Ernest Schweibert.
I had the good fortune years later of meeting these guys and having them inscribe these copies of their books.

I’ll second the approach to looking on eBay first. I bought 3 JC necks not too many years ago.

I met Talleur a few times, have a few of his signed books, somewhere a fly tied by him and also have one of his tying lights. I knew him as **** Talleur and they used to call the light the **** light. Here's the base.

I've heard good things about Pro Jungle C0ck. (I can't post the link because of the naughty word filter 🙄).
The stuff to stay away from is anything like the old Ti-Rite plastic "nails." It was too stiff, it gets bent and will twist your leader up to all hell. However, back in the day there wasn't any legal options for the real thing...

I’d assume the inventory he has now is off of the website so that he can sell them at the fly fishing shows in person. Joe’s about as sweet as honey and has an impressive passion for fly fishing and those who engage in it, I’d suggest reaching out to him on the contact of his site if you’re looking for a cape and I’m sure he’d be happy to help.
