Exactly! Not rocket science...I mean if you are fishing around areas that deep I doubt you are wading them.

Hit alot of water this past week, some good, some not. Upper Lehigh was iced over or to dangerous to fish, Penns was producing, but even with heavy fog once the sun came out just a little bit they turned off for me. Little J was flat out amazing.

I'm just a landscape photographer at this point.

Battenkill for (likely) my last outing of the year. Air temp was 52 degrees today, coming off 24 hrs of rain and a good deal of snow melt. Threw streamers all afternoon with no reward.

Finally broke down as I was wrapping up, since I knew the answer wouldn't be empowering, and dipped a thermometer: 39 degrees in the river.

This is the way 2024 ends - not with a bang but a whimper

Was able to wrap up the year on some Schuylkill County water yesterday. The fish were feeding and it was a great day to be out!

Been dissecting that region the past week as well. Fishing certainly got easier when things warmed up and flows bumped. Tight line with perdigon or tiny jig streamer. And a little indicator fishing a tiny stream today.

There's a lot of really nice water in that region if you're willing to explore. Being that they're freestone waters, your success can have a lot do with water temps. On these winter days, catching it during the late morning/early afternoon can really produce.

There’s definitely some temperature anomalies that take place in coal country creeks from the effect of the mine and treatment facility discharges. The net result is an effect similar to limestone influenced streams, speaking strictly temperature wise. Not like the Letort, but say more like a stream like Spring or BFC. They can be a few degrees warmer in Winter, and stay cool in the Summer. Cooler than you’d expect for their size. One of my Winter haunts too.

Those Browns definitely look like some “acid tolerant” ones from the stream bottom. Very nice.

caught a good number. I discovered one of my favorite winter holes was reshaped due to a downed tree upstream shifted the flow. The other winter lies I hit treated me well. Fewer people out than I thought I'd see.
Went out today for my yearly tradition and got my first brown and rainbow of the year. I actually got browns and a rainbow on two different streams today. Wind was terrible sometimes, but I kept my streak of, IDK, 9-10 years on New years day. The year I did not go out the temps were in the teens. I don't fish under those conditions. More people out today than yesterday. Looking at the forecast, I won't be fishing for at least the next 10 days

I had a pretty good streak of NYD outings going for a while. Never had a really great day on NYD, but don’t recall any skunkings either. But now 0 for 2 in the “after kids” era. All good. Was really windy, but relatively warm here. If you found a ridge to the NW to tuck up against, probably still could have had a nice day.

I met up with some great friends a couple days after Christmas to fish the Erie tribs. The water looked great with a nice flow and perfect color. It was cold with all the recent snow melt with stream temps in the mid to upper 30s in the morning. We had to work for them, but everyone caught fish. Buggers, zonkers and eggs all took fish.

Friendships become so much more meaningful over the years. It’s a great feeling when you see everyone again and reminisce about rushing up to Erie after class (sometimes during class) at Allegheny. It’s crazy how fast 18 years goes by. The pictures say it all.

Yep still fishing, gonna hit up some of my local brookie streams and see if I can’t persuade one to eat. But the browns are still feeding
