Interesting method for hackling a dry fly

First attempt:

It's a really cool technique, Jeremy, and similar to Chauncy Lively's style (a PA fly fisherman).

The best part of this technique is that the hackle is secured with mono, and the thread can be tied off before the fly is finished. It makes for a secure parachute, and fun to tie for sure.

I gave a demo of this style at a fly tying event in Western PA, and it went over so-so. Most had never seen the method and thought it was neat, but I was unsure if many would utilize it in their tying.

Here's a video I made illustrating the technique with a regular parachute:

Huh. Interesting. How did I miss that video? I usually see all of the ones you post. I may have to try the upside down parachute with cut wings as well.

The cut wing idea is a great one and I'd love to see how some flies turn out.
