idea to find images of some streams: geocaching.com

We have so many streams in PA and one issue with using maps, whether paper or electronic, is trying to understand how big a stream is. Some nat repro and class a streams are so small they are less fun to fish, but it is often hard to tell from a map. Until they add google stream view to google street view, heres an idea to find images of a few streams as you plan trips. Look up the zip code of an area with some brookie streams, go to geocaching.com, hit "hide and seek caches," then select the option to search by google maps. Put in the zip code, switch the map to terrain or satellite view, and see if there are geocaches on a stream that looks fishy given its surrounding terrain. If you follow the links for a cache, there are often pictures and hiking info. Of course only a few streams have caches on them, and the pictures arent for fishing, but they may show a pool, bridge, or waterfall. If you open a free account, there are gps coords. I got lucky, there are images of the brookie stream I want to hit next, along with parking info, and it looks promising, not too tiny.

A lot of the geo caches are on public land, and of course they are more likely to put one near waterfalls, overlooks, old rail lines, etc. It's not google stream view, but some remote streams are in there. They dont take stream pictures as nice as they ones on PAFF, but when they do have stream pictures, they give you location info
