I Needed Redemption

I don't know about you guys, but I am off to some of my worst fishing of any spring I can remember. I just haven't had many banner trips. Wait! I haven't had any banner trips! I've caught some fish here and there, but I have been struggling. Today, after striking out on a slightly bigger stream (but still small) with stockies and wild browns, I decided to drive to a trib to the stream I was fishing and redeem myself. I needed this. I was tired of fishing and finding nothing, so having brookies swarm my fly in all of the likely spots just felt good.

I have fished this stream before, and I like it a lot. It is a good stream. That one brookie was so silver that I had no idea what I had on at first. I had to inspect it because I thought it was a wild rainbow, and that would have blown my mind coming from this location, but it is a brookie.

I hope everyone else is finding tight lines!

It's still early, Josh!

I killed it this morning, as you can see:

I know. I know. And this weather just won't give up, but I am hoping it goes both ways and we have mild temps through all of June. That would be great.

Still, catching nonstop brookies felt great. That's a nice looking sucker, dude.

I need a day like that.

These browns in low water are making me work way too hard, and the weather HAS been tough. My first stop this morning was blown out despite two nearby gages showing not more than a blip. I had to fish the blip ones for the same old challenging conditions that have been in place all this spring.

I am also in need of redemption. I've been out 3 times this year, I caught a few the first trip but trip 2 and 3 I only got 1 each. Trip 3 wasn't a big deal I only fished for an hour but trip 2 really hurt, I fished almost all day and caught one while Broodstock caught a dozen or so.

I have a few days off around easter (working for a catholic school has many perks) and already plan on going Holy Thursday, maybe spending the night and fishing good Friday as well. I hope the weather cooperates.....

Dear jifigz,

I've spent much of the weekend chatting back and forth with a board member about the location for a possible Fall fishing vacation in upstate NY. If I do rent a cabin there, I will take a fly rod or two because it has many warm water species in it. I'm think of going in late September so warm water fishing up there should be prime.

But I'll be honest and admit that I'll mostly be going to visit a place I've wanted to visit since I was 12 and read articles and viewed advertisements in Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, and Sports Afield. My wife is fine with us going here so the hard part is already done. All I need to do is pull the trigger and book the cabin.

I need a week to think about it, and this week will pretty much be the suck so making a decision to go won't be too hard.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

I have never seen a brookie that silver before! Looks like a real good day. I'm definitely in need of redemption. I'm off to my worst start ever...between how late I finally waited to make my 1st trip out (weather), and lackluster results (1-3 fish an outing). Like you, I'll trade this slop now for banner fishing conditions in June.
I agree. That brookie was so silver. At first, I thought what I had wasn't even a trout, but when I saw that it was a salmonid, I for sure thought it was a rainbow.

You know this system, btw. You fish and enjoy the stream that this dumps into.

I'm doing my first fishing of the year Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of this week.
Gonna be cold. I have low expectations.
Dear Tabasco Joe,

When hopes are low surprises are often high and welcomed. Enjoy your time!

Tim Murphy 🙂

That first brookie is truly Awesome! I’m jealous. I’m guessing feral! You jinxed yourself. You invented a new trout and then immediately caught one. Congratulations! What are the odds? 😉

Thanks, Tim.

That's my philosophy with my wife. I've gotten her to have low expectations of me.

As long as I don't break a rod or take a dunking it will be a success.
As I get older, I have learned to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate more than just numbers of fish.
Took a walk the other day in my development and saw a bald eagle fly over to check the drainage pond.
This is just south of Doylestown, so we don't see them here very often.
Made my day.

Cheers.

I have a few streams I keep in my back pocket just for times like this year so far when fishings been rough. Used one today and caught some brookies. Water was tough in sw PA so had to head up towards the headwaters. Wasn’t a banner day but felt good.

And that silvery fish is wild. I’ve seen fish that looked kinda washed out but that’s something totally different

It is a very unusual fish. Check out its fins guys!!!!
They aren’t reddish orange with a black and a white line. They are just all white!!!! Compare the fins to the other pictures. That fish is too cool.
