What harm is there in using nymph hooks to tie an elk hair caddis? I just didn't have any dry fly hooks so I just used what I had. My first attempt at a dry fly as I have been just tying nymphs.

it is just that the wire is heavier and therefore sinks easier. but for a dressed with floatant EHC,you should be fine.

add a few extra elk hairs in the wing

plus ,there are some nymph hooks,like the TMC 200R that are commonly used for dries

No harm at all using nymph hooks to to dries. Sometimes I prefer them since they "stick" in the surface film and ride a little lower.
