Voted no but only because it sounds like you could wait for a better day in the near future. On the flip side I’ve never regretted burning time for fishing, but do try to reserve it for the best conditions. Also it’s good to get out a few times to shake the rust off before things heat up. Guess as long as that sick day is used to go fishing tomorrow or a later date it’s a win-win.

As a teacher we only get 3 personal days. 1 for Christmas shopping, one for March Madness (tomorrow) with my college buddies, and 1 for either a fall or a spring Penns Trip. Penns Trip is early and is next weekend. Not much rain in forecast. In 34 years I have only once "taken" a sick day for fishing. Saturday morning I will most likely regret the all day beer fest tomorrow.

EZ choice. Burn a PTO on a cool windy day with cold water hoping to get a fish.
OR
Burn a PTO on an day in May with ideal weather and fishing conditions when you can catch fish at will.

Wouldn't want to be at work knowing I could be on a river hammering rising fish.

I have plenty of days banked so I don't mind burning a couple here and there. To be honest I will ask my boss to just use a vacation day instead of a sick day, they will probably okay that even though they aren't supposed to without prior approval.

Compelling argument for sure. I definitely will schedule some PTO in May to fish so it's not like I will be missing out though.

Dear dudemanspecial,

It would depend on where I was going for an early season trip if it were me.

Tomorrow around Harrisburg is going to suck. NW winds 25 mph steady gusting to 40 makes for marginal fishing conditions for most folks. Maybe the weather will be better where you plan to go?

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

The general area between Altoona and State College likely. Looks like winds around 15 with gusts to 35. P

So put me on a highway,
And show me a sign,
And go catch your limit one more time.

You can spend all your time making money,
You can spend all your love making time,
If it all fell to pieces tomorrow,
Would you...

Go fishing.

Well it's 7:30 and I'm closing the polls and with a vote of 9-7 it looks like ill be going fishing tomorrow! Thanks for all your input but the reality is my wife told me I have been irritable so she knows it's time for me to get out before I lose my mind. Gonna pack up my gear and get ready to head out bright and early.

I will be fishing tomorrow, since I have a rare day off. I recognize that the conditions might not be great - cooler temps, rising pressure, and clear sunny skies. However, I will fish anyway since it is a weekday in the spring and I have the time. Could I do other things - sure. Would they be as enjoyable as fishing? Doubt it. I am going in with low expectations.

At least the rivers are not all blown out. Levels look good. PM me if you want to meet up, I'll likely be in CPA as well.
Pm sent

Sounds like you can use a day on the water, good luck. Looking forward to a report, with pics.

What's a sick day?

Its considered a benefit of employment, your employer provides you with a limited number of days per year where you can stay home and get paid if you are not well. Similar to a vacation day, personal day, etc. Some places just go with a blanket PTO deal where its not specifically designated sick, vacation, etc. Probably a better model in modern society as its less confusing
