Does anybody locally use a Zonker fly? It is just silver mylar tubing on a hook a strip of rabbit fur along the back creating one long wing / tail and grizzle **** hackle for a collar.

Daman, "Zonker strips provide some of the most life-like action in the water. I usually tie mine without tying the strip in at the bend of the hook, but instead just at the head. This just gives the rabbit strip more movement, or action. It is also just slightly faster to tie and I'm all about getting things done quickly! Just be sure the strip is not too long to fowl the hook or your leader will twist like all get out.

There are alot of good uses for zonker strips. As daves said, they impart alot of action in the fly, even just wrapping a zonker strip around a hook can create a very effective fly.

make sure you don't make the mistake of buying "cross-cut strips"
