Heads up I ran out of black bead-heads while tying - but had some gold ones, so I put them in gun blue for a few minutes & it worked. Can't say if it will work on all finishes, but it did on these.
I forget if I read it here or somewhere else, but you can hit the beads with a flame and dunk them in water. Think you rub off the gold then and it is black.
