Great Debate on Innovation:

Those are nice but Id rather lose 25 cheapy zinger/nippers than purchase one of those in fear of losing it.

For 25% of the price of "25 cheapy zinger/nippers" you could buy a Gear Keeper. Bean's sells the pin-on version for $12 which is around the price of just about any zinger worth owning.

Trust me when I tell you that you will never buy another brand zinger once you try a Gear Keeper that pins on or even the one with the hook attachment.

For me it ain't the price, it's having the thing at my disposal in working order when I need it.

It like what my auto mechanic friends say when I ask them why they buy Snap-On tools when you can get a lifetime warranty on tools at Harbor Freight: "It ain't the lifetime warrantee, it's knowing the thing won't break on you when you are in the middle of a job...."

In that case, I may have to invest in one. 12$ is much more reasonable thats 100$+. Thanks for the link!

You got teeth? Bite your line.

A real good way to make sure that you don't have teeth, from someone who knows. My bottom two middle incisors have excessive wear. I was a line biter.

Keep in mind there are multiple versions/attachment options. The L.L. Bean link I provided is for the screw post version.

I swear by the screw post. Push it through your vest or web strap and screw it in so it is JUST snug but still moves, (that's helps reduce wear on the cord).

I also put a SMALL dab of thread locker on. Once the Loctite sets it won't budge.

I took a header in a stream, smacked my line biting tooth on a rock and cracked it in half while fishing. Dentist filled it but I can't bite line anymore as that tooth has a soft middle.

I messed up one of my incisors from line biting also.

Line biting wore a little divot in the incisor, then the tooth delaminated. The front part of the enamel just sheered off in a layer.

The dentist fixed it, but I never bit line again.

God bless the dentists.

I have a pair of nippers that are older than 85% of you fellow fly fishers. I'll leave them to anyone that wants them in my will or sell them to anyone here as antiques. Patina included. Yes, these are Fly Fishing nippers,Pal brand, with eye cleaner, degorger, and lanyard included. Any bids.don't be shy? LMAO GG

Willing to trade?

I have Orvis clip-on zingers that are easily over 10 yrs old. Top one in pic but I'm not sure if they still sell them:

Mine are at least 65 years old. Given to me by an Aunt for my 15th birthday. GG

My zingers come from work. Use them for our badges. Over time the inner screw gets loose. We go and get new ones. :) Take the old one home, a screw driver and some loc tite, and they are as good as new. Free zingers.

When I was young and in my prime I use to open beer bottles with my teeth.Hard to do with false teeth even harder when you ain't wearing them.

I use the free lanyards that the casinos give you with the players card. Cheep, easy to get a new one and they function quite nicely for nippers, tipit license, or what ever.

haha yes, nail clippers! I just buy em' at the convenience store down the street. I can buy 100 of em for the same price as one of the expensive ones and not ever have I thought "There has gotta be a better way to do this." Half the time I just nip it with my teeth anyway if it is 5x and smaller.
