I see way more alfalfa or farmers chopping winter rye/ triticale, or other cover crop as opposed to the former standard of getting 2 cuts or timothy/ orchard grass or other mixed grass hay. I think alot of this has to do with fewer small dairies and the scale needed to make operations efficient. At least in my part of the state I would say grassland acreage, even if formerly mowed for hay once or twice, is way down over the past 20 years.
