Grasshoppers - Where are they?

I see way more alfalfa or farmers chopping winter rye/ triticale, or other cover crop as opposed to the former standard of getting 2 cuts or timothy/ orchard grass or other mixed grass hay. I think alot of this has to do with fewer small dairies and the scale needed to make operations efficient. At least in my part of the state I would say grassland acreage, even if formerly mowed for hay once or twice, is way down over the past 20 years.

I fished the Chittenango Creek in NY today. The grasshoppers are there, all along the banks in the high grass. I didn’t have any with me, but the only other fisherman had one tied on as part of his dry/dropper rig. Didn’t see him fish, but I’d imagine he did OK. Hope so!
