Please forgive me if this has been asked before. I see a lot of photos with freshly tied flies hanging on a bourbon cork. I have a few and they’ve become my favorite repurposing project. My question is not who makes the best stopper for this purpose, but what are the best cork bourbons?

George Wiener is good stuff but not that easy to find in PA.

While not Bourbon, IMHO the old school George D!ckel white label beats the pants off Jack Daniels black label...

FWIW - Laphroaig is Scotch, not Bourbon and a completely different critter. But as a fan of Lagavulin 16 Year old, the peatier the better! 🙂

Didn't the used to be. I can get both at the PA store. I have both right now. .

I don't know what this thread is about. I've been drinking and sticking my flies in Eagle Rare and Sazerac Rye lately.
You can get your hands on Eagle Rare? Don’t know if I was getting lied to….. I’ve talked to several state stores between Monroeville and MtPleasant and they all say that they can’t get much in and sell out the day they get it stocked. They have guys waiting for them to open and clean them out…..

I'm in NY, so the game is a bit different here since the liquor stores are private rather than state stores. There are a few stores around that have multiple ER bottles gathering dust at $80+.

Luckily, my local store gets a bottle here and there and puts them out for $60. It's only ever one bottle at a time and it does go fast, but I can usually catch one every couple months.

I bet it’s been a good 10 years since I handled a bottle of eagle rare! I kinda gave up trying to find ER and just get a bottle of whatever looks interesting…. There’s enough other brands out there that I have a small collection of various bottles with a couple pours gone.

Lagavulin is on another level.

Lagavulin 16 year is one of my favorites but my wife can't stand the smell of the peat.

I order it as an after dinner drink at a restaurant I frequent in Virginia. Our regular waiter who knew of her aversion would wave his hand over the snifter in her direction as he was bringing it to the table. 😆
