furled leaders

i keep hearing about these things... i've found out a little bit via google, but mostly on construction.
why, when would you use them? advantages? disadvantages? how do you use them?
give me it all!

very strong, last longer than regular leader.

no memory (for the UNI-thread leaders), lower memory for mono

at least for me - easier to cast and better fly presentation.

I found a trusted person to get mine from, i only pay $3 a piece for UNI-thread leaders. I have seen several catalogs that wanted upwards, and over $10 each. I dont know if i would pay that price.

I'd like to try one before I go to the trouble of learning to tie my own. Would six feet be a could length to start with?

Most furled leaders come in 8,10, and 12 foot....I make and sell them..
