I am ordering some supplies for the season and I just picked up some new furled leaders to replace my old and lost ones.

I love hearing from other people about their preferences. Does anyone have furled leaders they prefer or line floatant they like?

I picked up 3 FC furled leaders from feathercraft. These are my favorite leaders so far. I have also used the orvis braided leaders which are nice but prone to waterlogging.

Also I use the Orvis bimini tippets to start my tippet off of my leaders and feel they transfer the energy to the fly much more smoothly.

what do you like?

Mucilin.

Rub some into the entire leader when you are rigging up and you will be good to go for most of the day. If the leader starts to sink, re-apply. There shouldn't be many days when you need to apply it more than twice.

I have tried mucilin and I must admit it's nice.

Anyone see some of these various "acordian" style leader wallets out there?

Ditto

Loon floatant paste or mucilan. Either work. I apply it after each time out so its ready when I arrive on the stream.

anyone use the silicone mucilin:

I like the creek company one the most

ok cool. I already have the red stuff and I didn't think it was that great.

I used to use the green Mucilin but the container leaked all over everything, especially in the warmer weather.

Try the Orvis paste...it seems to work on my furled leaders just as well as the green stuff. I would bet you could find it pretty easily... :)

If I had to carry sink tips I'd use a leader wallet. But for spare leaders, I just keep them in the package with a perfection looped precut length of butt section I like to add on. Takes up less space. Another option is to use an old tippet spool to hold leaders.

Mucilin green. I furl my own leaders and simply store them in small zip lock bags Since they last so long I only carry a couple extras so I don't really feel a need to "organize" them. I do like the idea of using an old tippet spool to hold them. You could loop to loop them and have a continuos roll.

Same here. It does get messy.

cool.

I have green stuff on the way but maybe I will check out the Big O for their stuff.

Save a leader baggie and just put the container in there between uses.

But yeah, the containers do suck.

Loon Payette Paste.

It works fantastic on furled leaders or anything for that matter and it DOESN'T melt and run all over the place when its hot.

If silicone is an issue (varnished bamboo rods) Otter Butter which has no silicone works way better & longer than Mucilin for me but it ISN'T melt resistant. I keep some in one of those gasketed aluminum pill holders available at most drug stores.

If you can find them, old metal 35mm film cans had gaskets too.

As far as leaders go, I only use furled leaders made of thread. The mono/fluoro/Spectra versions out there twist like crazy. Thread doesn't. I source mine from furlers who make & sell on the Net.
