The wife and I are traveling to my moms for Christmas, and I'm looking to do some fishing. Anyone familiar with the area? I'd like to try to catch a Peacock bass, but some sites say they aren't in Ft. Myers, others say they are. Any tips on where to fish down there?

I don't believe they're around Ft Myers but I may be mistaken (as far as I know they're limited to the east coast around Miami). I've done well catching them in canals in Ft Lauderdale on Clousers and poppers.

The intercostal will be your best bet. I lived in Boca Grande for a
Few years an although I have never caught a peacock I have seen them in the intercostal, along with largemouth, talapia, snakeheads and the occasional saltwater fish like snook an reds. Also I have caught tarpon on the intercostal. Not big ones but any tarpon on fly is a good tarpon. I would use brightly colored closures an bulky poppers. Good luck. This post is a little late but it might help out someoone in the future.
