Where do you find these under $20 rods you speak of? Used from Ebay? Do you have a secret supplier you meet under some bridge (while pretending to fish of course)?

yes,on ebay.i even got a rod for $1.99.it was a daiwa 4/5 fiberglass and it has become one of my favorite rods.

my first fiberglass rod was bought on ebay for the reel that was on it
and i didn't really have an interest in vintage glass at the time.

then one day to save wear and tear on my bamboo rod and disinterest in my graphite rods made me try it out.i was impressed to say the least.

my whole point in talking about vintage glass though,is that for bass they make sense.the heavier weights keep the price down.

no ,you're not going to find a phillipson five weight for cheap,but you might find ,say an old conolon seven weight for thirty bucks or so.

the price of vintage glass(i can't afford modern fiberglass)makes them worth while to check out.
