Fishing Balls Eddy in One Week

The boat was $90 when I did it two years ago. Sorry if that's no longer accurate.

I didn't need a shuttle. Just got a ride to the put in and floated back to my car at WBA.

I think the WBA will launch the boat at their place and pick it up at a predetermined take out. When I called last year, I thought it was around $165 but they may have included shuttle in the price. Call Coz at Border Waters. If they don't rent canoes, they have someone that does. It should be around $50 per day and Gene at the Capra will shuttle you for $20-30.

WBA left a boat for us in deposit, and we took out at the WBA property.

Good call with the boat. $40 a man is a good investment for the rest of the trip. Just buy a case of Natty Light instead of Victory🙂

I'd rent a boat the first day and do some scouting if the water is still up. That'll give you day 2 and 3 to head back and wade fish the areas you scouted or check out the main stem. If you're wading the deep flat pools and like throwing dries, 1200 cfs might be a bit much to get to the fish. If you like nymphing, those higher flows will push the fish right to the inside seams. Be sure to take a few 3/0 shot with you...

We want to thank you for all your help and suggestions. Made the Gumbo last night for tuesday nights dinner. Stopping at the Sporting Gentleman today to load up on ISO's. Can't wait to go "tap dancing" as suggested by slight nymph!

The main stem is pretty easy to wade. If you catch a hatch and the fish 'turn on', you will be tap dancing. What days are you guys heading up? Maybe I'll come up for the day to join you / help / fish.

Mon thru thursday. If you see a Black Jeep Liberty streamside with an American flag taped to the antenae that will be us.

I just hope it stays a consistent level for you guys. Having steady releases is half the battle up there too. Too much up and down, herky-jerky definitely screws with the fishing.

You guys might actually have some good fishing on the Main with this huge slug of cold water if some fish moved back down into there.

Your Iso plan is a good one. Just carpet bomb the riffs, broken water, and wait for a blast from a bow. They can be screamers!!! Also, maybe hang a small nymph off the back end.

VC tying a 9ft leader with an ISO and a small beadhead "The Fly" f/k/a The Prince dropper tonight. Although I usually use a 7.5 leader I'm using the 9 footer because of all the advice on this thread that wading and accessability might become problematic.

If you're targeting risers, I'd lengthen that leader to the longest that you can comfortably cast. For blind casting the iso, 9' should work.

Just got back from the Sporting Gentleman. Barry still had the Orvis 12 flies for 12 bucks going. Got the Emergers Blue Wing Caddis the Fly on the advice of some of you and on a whim bought a zug bug as a potential dropper for our trip to the WB. Needed a new fly box as I have been building up my collection since the day my vest was stolen in June. PS Afish still has not come forward with his "Afish Specials". Anyway Barry's daughter talked me into buying this Fly Box which the Prof says should be used by a gay FF "not that there's anything wrong with being a gay FF".

Not sure what's to hate on with that box, unless one just has to blast it because it's got Orvis on it. Floats, pretty indestructible, etc. Of course one of my roomates my freshman year had a hard core case of teh ghays, so what do I know?

Would look better in pink to match his wading boots!!!!! By the way, don't go rushing to the Sporting Gentleman in search of $1.00 flies. Barry is actually honoring the Orvis offer of twelve free flies mentioned here in another thread. But, you need a copy of the ad from the Orvis catalogue. Since we picked up twenty-four, it came to about a dollar a fly. If we had purchased more, the price per fly would have been more....now wouldn't it? Wait until Fadeaway tries to figure this out.

fade,

Not sure what it's doing where you live but we have had monsoon like rain in the Hbg area. I looked on the map and it's rained in the Catskills as well. Not all bad news either. Maybe the rain will swell the D from NJ line south. That will push back the salt line and allow the WB gate to be closed. You might just make out OK in this deal. Seriously, I can / will be ill on Monday if you'd like to get together an float the WB or Big D. Let's see how the rain changes flows and if they drop the release rate on the WB. If it pour in the East end of the Catskills, the Willow and Beaverkill will swell like crazy and dump red clay color water into the EB. That could nix any fishing on the main. Keep your fingers crossed.

They better not shut it off until at least after tomorrow. I've got a float date tomorrow. That said, I've been watching all day and if they do anything, they might adjust the gate slightly downward (decrease in the release) but they still need to maintain the 1750cfs Montague target.

All around funny, high quality post! LOL!

That is cool of them to honor the 12 free flies that is supposed to be corporate stores only. But dollar cost averaging UP? Always a losing proposition.

Good luck guys!

Fadeaway...........that pic in your avatar has to be one of the coolest i've ever seen........GREAT.
