On streams that are rarely fished you can use just about anything. I tend to use green BH San Juan worms since I can easily track them by sight to ensure a proper drift and a quicker hook set.
However near me there are a few small streams that get a ton of pressure. On those streams the green fly doesn’t work well. Instead a BH pheasant tail nymph or a BH March Brown nymph works best. I’m not sure how many of those insects are in the stream but a more natural fly works best for me. Those are my “go to” flies.
