I need a large 6+ person tent, maybe two room, or one room w/ vestibule. 3/4 season. I don't mind taping my own seams but I'm looking for something that will be watertight & stormfast with no more than minor maintenance.

A warranty from either the store or manufacturer would be nice.

Any clues?

I think you are asking a lot of a tent but look at Target and K-mart. They have a pretty goo selection. If you live near Cabelas, you'd have trouble beating their variety.

i agree with tom, i have a 4 person from cabela`s and its great, i`m sure the family size is great also

Cabelas or LL Bean come to mind speaking to your interest in warranty, there are few retailers that honor warranty better than these two.

Coleman makes decent tents on the cheap too. I picked up an 8 man tent several years back from Wally World for around $100 bucks. Add a few cans of water proof spray to be safe and that's a cost effective option. I would recommend a couple of tarps and clothesline-- one for the footprint (underneath your tent) and another to put above the tent, tied to trees and you're golden. We also used a tarp tied to trees above the picnic table in our seating and eating area and that worked out very well in torrential downpours.

Get the biggest cheapest thing you can find, use it well, throw it away in a couple of years..repeat..

Add sleep on a cot, up off the ground, to sundrunk's advice.

that would be fun.

How much cabbage are you willing to part with?

Cabela's Alaskan Guide Model tents are very good.
Extra thick floor and walls. I have the 6 man version and it is plenty big for me the wife and 2 kids plus our german shepard.

Columbia Cougar Flats 8 Person Cabin Tent

We've been using this since the Jam and it's holding up well. Been through a few nasty storms with no leaks. I wouldn't suggest attempting to assemble it for the first time in the pitch dark--learned that the hard way!

Cheapest at Bass Pro and ****s.
