Fall Fish

Went for trout today and stayed for the fall fish. I got them on a stonefly nymph, bugger and leech. They were aggressive and the larger ones were very colored up. Spawning time?

Fallfish are cool fish. They build piles of rocks for spawning. Pretty neat.

Those are some really nice Fallfish! I enjoy catching Fallfish too. Sometimes I get into some that will crush poppers on top during the summer while fishing for Smallmouth Bass.

Me too. Those Juniata River fallfish love the gurglers. I hope the burgeoning flathead pops don't hurt the fallfish.

The first one I got Nymphing some pocket water. But most of the rest were at the confluence of two rivers right on the seam of a deep, pretty serious run. They were definitely doing some surface splashing. It was phenomenal streamer practice for me. I was swinging/drifting a leach and bugger with added shot deep through the run with random twitches. It was the first time I had the opportunity to lock in on a strip set. At one point I had it drifting through the run and I was fiddling with something and my line just took of peeling drag. I caught close to a dozen on the day. And two stocked rainbows haha. I can’t lie in the back of my mind I wished each one was a nice brown trout.

Love a good fallfish. They fight really nice pound for pound.

My nicest one in recent memory. Susquehanna and multiple tribs have them in good size.

Totally spawning season for those beasties. In one of my hidden trout streams that runs into a small river two weeks ago, there must have been 2000 of them. It was like those stories about being able to walk across the creek on the backs of the fish.
