Unusually heavy rains in FL this winter have caused a perfect storm of heavy run-off that has spiked pollution levels along the state's estuary areas. Particularly hard hit has been the Indian River area with very large fish kills.

Fish Kill in FL

What they don't tell you is the already under lying problem.

The Big O or Okeechobee.

The west side, Sanibel Island and Caloosahatchee River area, has also been impacted - I flew to Fort Myers last month to fish, and it has thrown everything off, though not to the extent of the fish kills on the east coast. On the gulf side, the lake runoff contributed to one of the worst red tides in years. We had to venture far from town to find fishable conditions. The real damage though, is to the base of the food chain, the seagrasses and shell beds that have been killed off by the fresh water surge. It's a sad, yet preventable situation that will negatively impact those fisheries for years to come. And as always, money and dirty politics is at the root of it!

Sad state of the environment. Your correct Sarce it' s all political. GG
