This one started life as a variant of a fly tied by another classic fly tyer, ended up morphing to this.

Hope you like it.

Pattern as follows
Hook: Phillips Jones
Tag: Flat gold, oval gold and blue floss
Tail: Light Am-gold crest, veiled with IC sub
Butt: Black ostrich
Body: Rear half gold embossed tinsle, front half burnt orange floss
Rib: Oval Gold, with a furnace hackle over the floss only
Throat: Sky blue hackle and 2 turns of gallina
Underwing: tippets back to back, flanked by Tragopan flanked by jungle ****
Wing: Kori married to barred woodduck, with light Amgold topping over all.
Head black.

I like the under construction pics. Beautiful fly.

I assuming you use cat gut for eye. What do you use to secure it?

They eyes are normally silk worm gut (Expensive - $1.25 per inch) Here ive used post WWII Japanese silk, twisted. It comes on little cards with different breaking strains, not unlike monofilment.

As for securing the gut, I lay down a layer of waxed thread right at the end of the hook, then use more waxed thread to tie it on. Its pretty secure.

Older flies were gutted the full length of the hook, obviously for fishing purposes, but for the flies i tie, gut at the end is sufficent.

As usual, your ties make me puke (with envy). Don't know if I ever saw perfection before viewing your fly's. You are an artist.
