Yesterday was a lovely Sunday in Southeast Pennsylvania. Quarantine was making us stir crazy and my daughter wanted to go to this place she found a geo cache case once. The stream in the woods is a small class A brook trout stream that is easy to walk, she wanted to play with an underwater camera i bought her, She loves photography. The great thing is that it's near several places that I am keeping an eye on for spring/summer migration of brook trout. Finding these fish proves difficult but I have 30 places to stop and look for them. Its more about hunting than fishing but hey i got a professional photographer with me now to boot! So, we fished this tiny brook for a few hours and then had lunch. Afterwards, we drove around 45 miles or so in a circle in the search of larger brook trout. I have mixed in my pics and her pics as our day progressed. Enjoy!
My favorite small stream fly rod is still this old Fenwick 72-6 6'1" 3/4wt 1 pc I own. I cant say enough about this beauty. It casts completely natural to me and I just love it! Dries, swinging wets, roll casting, it is just perfect. Last year, I scored the exact reel it needed to be a matching outfit at a flea market close to home, no less. A mint Eagle Claw EC10 for 20 bucks!
I spooled it up for this trip and lets see how it looks.
I dig it. I dig it, a lot.
Let's try a caddis with a coachman wet.
Back to the log jam...
Oh she searches for these guys. She loves salamanders!
In the log jam....
She finds all the cool stuff!
I made her ride along while her dad stopped at bridge crossing after bridge crossing, at 5 different feeder streams in a 45 miles radius to a mid size warmwater river. It took uncomfortable butts in the car, 2 bags of McDonalds , redbull and juice boxes but we found a few in the 13-14" range. Fish are way down low in the system and just came in. Others are sure to flow in nearby streams.
Next few weeks ill get these guys while I wait for the others to start moving.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
