Does ice affect river gauges?

Does a river or stream that has frozen over have an impact on river gauges? It appears some gauges im looking at have stopped showing a cfs reading.

I intend to fish in Schuylkill co. Tomorrow hopefully it’s not too frozen 🥶

Also leaves piling up near the gage can result in strange readings.

If you're heading to Schuylkill Co tomorrow, I'm recommend that you consider sticking with streams receiving high volume groundwater outflows because other streams may be ice bound in pools and lined with shelf ice extending 25% of the way out toward center channel from each bank. That’s the situation in the Lehigh Valley stream sections that I have seen that are not limestone spring influenced. It’s colder in Schuylkill Co.
