Does DNR ever lie about trout stockings?

In Pa the maximum numbers that are allowed to be stocked in a stream section are assigned according to a section’s classification for each preseason and inseason stocking; however, as mentioned above for Md, the normal size fish are loaded onto the trucks by weight. In Pa, the average weight per 100 fish is measured ahead of time from each raceway, so for example when a load of trout is comprised of fish that are 50 lbs per 100 count, that means each fish averages 1/2 lb. Need 300 fish for a 2 mi section? Load 150 lbs. This is the fastest and most efficient way to load a truck. In contrast, trophy trout as I recall, and GRT’s for sure, are individually counted, given their limited supply.

Just a point of reference for stocking comments; all the hatchery personnel I know want the streams to be well stocked and for fishermen to have an enjoyable experience. That is what their job is about. Things do happen to change schedules now and again, but the fisheries staff always try to have the streams well stocked and fairly distributed so anglers catch fish.
