Displaying Posts "Newest First"

Dave, in my account settings, I have these options selected and saved:

Comments Display Mode: Flat
Comments Sort Order: Newest First

Nonetheless, when I am logged in and I display a thread, the comments are displayed Oldest First and I must drop down the View Mode and manually select Newest First. After doing so the current thread displays correctly, but if I navigate to a different thread, it reverts to Oldest First and so I have to toggle it to Newest First again.

Is this happening to everyone and can it be fixed?

Also, if the only solution is to set the default display for everyone to Newest First, I think (based on results in my poll about Migrating Threads) that most people prefer the Newest First display mode.

Thanks Jack.I will look into these along with the icons refelcting new posts.
