Night electrofishing this week revealed that the Delaware R smallmouth bass (in the non-tidal river in Bucks Co and southeastern Northampton Co), as well as rock bass, redbreast sunfish, a few small striped bass, and a few small walleye are still close to shore. This presents an opportunity to take a few more shots at them from shore before giving up on the warmwater fishing for the year.

i have only EVER caught bass, or any species of fish, from an island or from a boat when fishing the delaware. spin or fly, but the ones out there are rather impressive.

It's been said by many experienced fisherman that fall is the best time to catch really big smallmouth. Unfortunately, I've not had this good fortune. When I have the opportunity to be on the river in the fall, the bass seem to have vacated the places that I generally fish for them. Perhaps, it is a matter of devoting time to the river or changing the time of day that I fish.
