Deer Creek Allegheny County

Offtopic, but I'm reading George Harvey's book right now and it had this passage:

"We used to fish a pretty good stream a few miles from Pittsburgh - Deer Creek. It empties into the Allegheny River's right bank as you go downriver. We'd drive up there in the evening and fish the lower couple of miles. It wasn't a big stream, but there were wild trout in it. I didn't fish any other streams in south-west Pennsylvania".

I love reading these old books and seeing things like that....

Interesting. I always thought it was a put-and-take fishery and used to fish it often in my younger days. I have talked to old timers who swore there were stream-bred browns in select locations. Of course, a lot has changed since George Harvey fished it, I'm sure.

I know years ago when the lakes of Deer Lakes Park were first created, they were formed utilizing the natural, spring-fed waters in that region. I'm wondering if he may have fished it before that when the influx of Little Deer Creek in the lower waters may have been cool all year.
