Craft store bead sizes

Everybody seems to be a fan of buying their beads from the craft store. This may be a dumb question but all of the beads i have seen in the stores are not measured in mm. They are 10/0, 6/0 etc. How do you know what size to buy or is everybody just buying the bulk variety packs and finding the ones that fit? Any input would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Thanks for the information - first time I have seen the aught sizes with diameters.

I use the 6/0 beads for steelhead flies which I generally tie in sie 8 and 10.

the 11/0 beads go for most mayfly and caddis nymphs.

I have some inbetween beads that make decent stonefly bodies.

I found some called "petite" that work well for midges.
