Conodoguinet Fishing Again...

Hello all,

Now that spring is rolling in, I wanted to bring the fly rod back out into the connie. I posted during the winter asking about what fish were in the connie at that time of year but never ended up having any luck at all. However now that its late march, I was thinking of taking the fly rod out and seeing if I could target some fallfish this weekend. Do you guys think that they would bite? Any fly recommendations? I was thinking of throwing a wooly bugger or small streamer and just seeing what hits.

Your plan sounds pretty good to me, considering there isn’t a ton of open water in the south central area until April 5. And a streamer is probably what I’d start with too.

This is like third hand hearsay, but my father in law was talking to a pretty experienced guide who told him he caught the biggest brown trout of his life in the Connie in the middle of March. He reckoned it was a big migratory fish from the Letort that spends time in the bigger water and goes back up into the tribs when the temperature rises.

I haven't caught a brown trout yet but I have heard a few stories of people catching big ones in the connie.

Good advice! Always put your streamer into your hook keeper or the stripping guide of your rod when traversing those steep, muddy banks. That way when you slip down the bank and your leader catches a branch you don’t have to deploy the needlenose pliers of your leatherman to rip that size 4 hook back out of your finger! Speaking from experience.
