Confirmation on IDs?

The first one from the middle of the Delaware River. The picture is dated 10/19. It was probably a size 16. From a hatch chart I think it is a tan caddis/spotted sedge.

The second one is from yesterday in the same location. It was a size 14, maybe a 12. I think it is an early brown stonefly.

I would really like to learn to identify bugs on my own. If I'm wrong I think I would prefer to just be told so and keep looking for the correct answer. I am mostly seeking confirmation that I have identified them properly, which I am absolutely not positive about it.

My guess would be based on time of year...October Caddis (cinnamon caddis) and Early Black Stonefly. Looks black not brown to me.

 
Based on time of year and pics...

Top one I think is tan sedge (?). Any old tan bodied caddis should match it.

Second is black stone. You might see them from #18 - #14 depending on the stream.
