Looking to get some CCG for building up wing cases and some midge stuff. I wanted to get the kit, but don't know if I need the thick and thin that comes with it. I was thinking (based on reading things) that maybe I need just the tack free syringe and then just get the light.

Any suggestions?

IMO they are kinda the same. I use them for baitfish patterns. I think midge wings would be tricky.

i would recommend the misfit brand kit sold here

or just the uv goo without the light

buy a light on ebay or even at your local true value hardware store

this uv goo cures tack free as advertised. it is a thick product and its used with a brush applicator.

thick or thin doesnt really matter since you can apply a thin coating of the thick version. you dont need to glop it on to cover a wing case or to coat a midge pattern

if ccg is the brand you definately want to use, dont get the syringe. it will be much harder to apply on smaller flies

get this one. it gives you the option of applying with a brush or dispensing tips

Good stuff, nfrechet. Thanks!

I got the kit about 6 weeks ago. I'm not a big fan of the syringe idea. I find it hard to control. I'll be picking up the bottle dispenser with brush soon.
The stuff in the syringe must be coated after, I use Sally Hansen's to coat it. Tack free would be real nice.

one thing I noticed is the flex is kinda lumpy. its hard to get a truly smooth looking finish on it. the thick and thin are ok. in reality I still prefer epoxy but its a waste since I bought the kit. anyone ever try tuffly?

They do make tack-free CCG. I have some in a bottle that I brush on. I use the syringes mostly for making lips on streamers, but the tack free stuff you can brush onto anything.

I linked a video I made for one of my patterns. CCG is great stuff.

After much deliberation last year, I purchased a bottle of the thin and a bottle of the hydro. I also purchased a 10 dollar UV light from Lowes.

I use the thin to cover wing cases and the hydro to cover thread nymph bodies, quill bodies, and midge bodies.

Is a UV light a UV light? CCG says on their site that their light is made for their product. Any truth to this?

While their light may be designed for their product, the light I bought at Lowes works just fine...it has to do with UV wavelength...sometimes the thin is a little tacky... I just top coat it with hard as nails...also make sure you are using fresh batteries

the best uv light i have found to date is the.....SUN and its free

The tuffleye light doesn't work on clear cure goo
If its tacky its because that will help additional coat stick....otherwise ribbing alcohol takes it off

Your the man Norm, been wanting to try that stuff but never wanted to pull the trigger on the kit. Too pricey, and not really sure just how much I'd use it.

Where do you find this mystical UV light at Lowes? I was at Lowes and Home Depot today, neither had anything past bulbs. The fly shop was out of the light.

Almost all lights produce UV it just depends on how much. If you know what you are doing you could buy these, a resistor and a battery or hook it up to an old cellphone changer and you will not need batteries.

I love the posts regarding UV glues. I have been using Loon thin for the majority of my tying, and like it for sure. Here's a link, though the price seems high. I bought it at a local shop for a lot less:

I purchased a UV light off of Amazon after a little research; it's been working fine and cures fast:

I agree that the sun is the best, though the UV glues are so much faster than 5-minute epoxy. I also have used a glass UV glue (disregard the 10 minute cure time; it cures the same as others):

I would recommend the Loon for midges, but not the glass glue; it would be better for larger patterns.

I bought my uv light at auto zone, for around 15$. I have the the tack-free and the hydros. The hydros is my favorite.

Thanks guys. I ordered a 400nm light through Amazon.

I bought one of these at my local ACE HARDWARE store for 10.99 and it works just fine with the misfit brand uv resin + it should work with all of the other UV goos on the market with the exception of tuffleye brand

I got my light yesterday. It works with the Loon glue.
