Just curious, how far are you guys able to fly cast? I’m currently able to hit about 80 feet, and am working on becoming able to cast a full 90 ft wf line.

I can easily cast the 20' feet across my mountain freestones with my 7' 3wt. 🙂

It's not about the length, it's about how you use it.
If you are throwing it 80', you are in the top 1%. I've fished with quite a few people over the last 40+ years of fly fishing.... can count on one hand guys that could do it and hit their target.
To answer your question, I can toss it pretty decent. Have I thrown the entire line + backing out of the tip top? Yes. It's not real enjoyable to do though. I think the reasonable fishing distance of 40' - 60' and hitting a desert plate 9 out of 10 times is more conducive to filling up your net 😉

It all depends on type of rod and weight of line. 12' 8wt spay will be very easy to cast 80"to 100",
A 6'6" 2 wt will be very difficult to cast 40'.
My point is casting length is relative to how one wants to fish but each is dependent on the same casting motion.

If I'm thinking of the same float, 9 casts and 7 into the net... all were 18" - 21". By no means a typical day but accurate casting is a must. Kinda pride myself in hitting the bullseye on tough fish on the first try. BTW, you throw it plenty good to make your hands stink 😉. Steve is still my pet project. Get him out with me again!
@krayfish2 and @csoult biggest sandbaggers on both your casting skills. I can't cast, but I can catch fish as long as I'm not in a boat on the Delaware.

This is what I was going to say. I can cast my whole line with 8 and 9 wts, and this is sometimes practical and useful on salt or stillwater. With 5wts and a long dry fly leader, I can comfortably cast 40 ft of fly line; longer than that I sometimes get into tailing loop trouble.
Ironically, I think I might be able to cast my 8'6" LL Bean Streamlight 5wt (which I only fish on small streams) further than my 9' Recon 5 wt (which I only fish on big streams). I've never found a line I love for the Recon, and I can't feel the damn thing load very well. Maybe someday I need to try to throw a 6 on it.
Hate to call BS on ya Dave but I have to. You are a pretty darn good caster. Sorry to break it to you but you are quite proficient with the fly pole. I wish I could take pictures like you do.
This totally depends on what type of rod, line, and fly is attached to the end. If I have a fast action rod and a light fly, I can easily cast the whole fly line. I typically fish slow action rods though, and it makes it much, much harder to cast all of that line.

I can adroitly cast a dry fly 60-65 feet. I've only occaisionally wished for more. More of a problem than distance is current between me and the fish.

Cast for show, mend for dough. Or whatever. I can’t do either well, in the traditional sense.
Need to skipping stone a big bushy dry under a rhododendron, maybe. But cast a whole fly line, no. Can’t do that. On big water fishing dries I actually underline my 5wts, so as to be able to cast a little further.
