Carp

Got my first last night in the C&O canal along the Potomac, after two near misses earlier this week! Took a green drake nymph, and I probably shouldn't have been using a 4 wt rod but it worked out in the end! It was not dark yet when I hooked the fish...lol. I did a quick length estimate around 25". Not sure what the weight would be. 7-8 lbs?

The spot I have been fishing ALWAYS has about 15-20 carp actively mudding so I hope to get a few more this summer. I only fished about 15 minutes last night before hooking this one. Perfect after-work mid summer fun!

Congrats, sarce!

I'm a bit jealous of y'all that have carp. After too many trips of not finding carp, I sold my carp "flats boat" and went saltwater fishing. It's just as frustrating but the locations are nice.

Thanks guys! Surprised it has taken me so long to get interested in chasing them, there's not much else to fish for right now in my immediate 15-20 minute drive area.

Located a new spot today on north branch of Susquehanna that had several feeding in the pouring rain. I used a size 8 black clouser minnow that did the trick.

Yes they are definitely alot of fun!! There are not to many fish around here in central PA that will dump the whole fly line in a matter of seconds from hook up. They are a very addictive fish to pursue and provide alot of challenges that make them fun.

Got my buddy his first carp on the fly yesterday, caught 3 each , lost one more and missed a good handful of them. If you ever come across a spillway on a creek or lake thats covered with algae give it a shot. Used Green and black streamers and would just drop them about a foot off the spillway and let them sink.
