From my experience carp get very spooky when they sense that something is between them and deeper water . And the wake of your boat puts them on high alert . Waiting could work but has its obvious challenges.

I've been seeing that goldfish at Scotts Run for a few years now. Never really had a desire to try to catch him. There are so many at Hopewell lake that if I was to start that (carp) addiction that is where I would go.

Definitely give it a try. It's super fun and rewarding knowing you fooled one of the smartest fish in the world.
